Gaynor Davies-Howell (GDH) designs and makes natural leather products using traditional methods of craftsmanship. She aims to create timeless, classic, leather goods for clients requiring high quality products which have been entirely hand-made, using traditional skills. The inspiration behind GDH was in response to mass produced luxury leather goods and so the GDH label was formed, offering limited availability of exquisitely hand-sewn designs.
The studio is set at the foot of the Preseli Mountains in West Wales, in a small nineteenth century chapel. It is here, working with beautiful, vegetable tanned leather, hand sewn with the aid of two needles an awl and a wooden clam, that the work is slowly assembled with care and accuracy, resulting in pieces that surpass those made by machine, in both beauty and strength – Heritage pieces that are designed to last a lifetime with the assurance that vegetable tanned leather in particular, will reliably retain its aroma, shape and beauty and over time will develop a wonderfully unique patina.
